As specialities are considered also the Kebabs (pieces of lamb or other meat skewered and roasted over charcoal fire), the Stifado (a stew of beef or hare cooked with wine, vinegar, onion and spices), Koubebia (vine leaves stuffed with minced meat and rice) and Tava (a tasty stew of meat, herbs and onions). Cyprus beverages - Cyprus Wines Cyprus is renowned for its good wine. The Cypriot Wine was already in the antiquity famous for its quality and excellent taste. This has ofcourse to do with the superb climate of the island. Cyprus is also famous for its honey-sweet red wine called "Commandaria". Commandaria is an excellent desert wine. People say it is the oldest wine in the world. Famous it become at the time of Richard Lionheart and the time when Cyprus was occupied by the Order of the Knights of the Temple. In our Tochni Tavern we organise regularly wine-tasting events. We also consult our guests about Cypriot wines and we provide them with information about wine routes in the island.
